problems with sending mail using external server (gmail)

I'm trying to send messages using PHP through the mail server smtp.gmail.com but it returns the error:

ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Connection timed out (110)

I read on the internet about this error, and say it is that hosting provider closed outgoing ports for mail.

You might want to try running your code on a different port.
