Email sent to my domain bounces
2/11/2014 21:06
Hi,
I have a domain I purchased via Dynadot but hosted at another Webhosting service.
last week I closed that account and have set up Basic Webhosting here at dynadot. I can see the Dynadot hosted website via my domain, but email is still bouncing.
I don't know how to change the "settings" so mail sent to mailboxes in my domain are received at Dynadot, and not the previous host.
Can someone help?
Thanks

You need to create the email addresses inside your Basic Hosting web space.

How do I create domain email addresses in my Email plan?

To create domain email addresses for your Email package, please follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Dynadot account.
  2. Select "My Emails" from the left-side menu bar.
  3. Click on the "Sign In" link. A new page should load in a new browser window.
  4. On the Mailboxes section, located in the bottom left corner of the screen, click the Mailbox icon (Manage Mailboxes).
  5. Click “Create New Mailbox” on the top right corner.
  6. Enter the email address in the provided form.
  7. Press the "Create" button to save your changes.

Our Pro Email plan supports an unlimited number of email addresses. Learn how to access your email and find out how to turn on a "catch all" email address, so you'll never miss an email just because of a typo!

You can also visit the Email FAQ section of our help files for more info about how to set up your email with various platforms such as Gmail, Mac Mail, your iPad and iPhone, and more.

Thanks for your reply.
I had followed those directions previously, and created two mailboxes in addition to the default admin account. I can send mail to one of the accounts, but the other two continue to "bounce".
The error error message I get is pasted below (replacing my domain name with [domain_name] to discourage spam]. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

You still have email forwarding set up for your domain.  This means your domain email is not active.  Please revisit the 'Email Forwarding' page and select 'Do Not Forward Email'.  You can set up the forward in the 'Settings' area for your domain email instead.

How can I disable my email settings?

If you have set up email forwarding or MX records through the Email Setting page and would like to disable it, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Dynadot account.
  2. Select "My Domains" from the left-side menu bar and click "Manage Domains" in the drop-down.
  3. Check the box next to your domain name(s) and click on the "Action" button.
  4. Choose "Email Settings" from the "Action" list.
  5. On the "Email Settings" page, select the "Not Set" setting from the top drop-down menu.
  6. Click the "Save Email Settings" button to save your changes.

Subtle but important differences, but that seems to do the trick.
Thanks for the info!
