Is Dynadot in cahoots with GoDaddy?
I only ask because I HATE Godaddy and i was going to move all of my domains to Dynadot but then I read a story at www.nodaddy.com. Is Dynadot associated with GoDaddy??? In the Godaddy Horror Stories section they mention DynaDot (see below). "When Nick Berlette exposed a serious security hole in the website of DynaDot.Com, they apparently responded by persuading GoDaddy to shut down his blog rather than fixing their pathetic security [agiorlando.com]. GoDaddy of course complied immediately, and sent him this shutdown notice. Note that GoDaddy used the ransom approach here, saying he had two options: Pay a "$199 non-refundable reactivation fee" and GD will put his web site up, or "if you choose to transfer the berlettefx.com domain name to another registrar, we first require that you pay a $75 administration fee ... to cover the costs of responding to or "cleaning up" the situation caused by your web site. No, we have no relationship with GoDaddy. Nick Berlette alleged to have hacked our system, but we were never able to reproduce his exploit. And no domains were ever lost. You have a brand new account with us, with no domains in it. I hope this is an honest question, and you are not trying to scare customers away from us.

Hi. No this is not a scare tactic or anything like that. This is an honest question. You see, I've had it with GoDaddy. That Parsons guy is a dirt bag and I'm sick of the horror stories of registrants getting shut down and having to pay $199 to get their site back up, or $75 to transfer out. That's extortion! I am looking for an alternative and you were recommended to me so I decided to do some research and got worried when I found your name at NoDaddy that seemed to associate you with gadaddy. I signed up for an account here in order to ask my question. Since then I found more info on the subject so I now know the whole story. I have quite a few domains and I just don't want to move them to another registrar that would shut a registrant down just because someone complained without giving the registrant a fair shake. Apparently all one needs to do at Godaddy is complain and you may be shutdown. Anyway, as long as you are not in cahoots with them I'm okay about it. I'm NOT a hacker, child pornographer, warezer, or copyright infringer - but I am political and in this day and age I can't help but to curse a republican or two (or all of them). Ok thank you for your response. I think you will find our dispute handling fair and reasonable. We don't charge a fee to get your site back up. Just fix the problem and we are happy. And if for some reason there is a disagreement, we don't force you to pay a fee to transfer out.

I can only say how Fantastic Dynadot really are. We have thousands of domains at Dynadot and can honestly say they are lightyears better than Godaddy. Go Dynadot !!

I have been with Dynadot for years also and with no issue for any of my domains ever. I think this is simiply a person who is disgruntled and wants to make everyone pay. You would be perfectly safe with your domains here at Dynadot and I am sure very satisfied with them. I know that I have been and when I need help they are quick at responding and answering phones unlike other competitors.

I am confident that there is no godaddy association and that disputes here are handled in a different manner than the heavy handedness of godaddy. It's ironic though that dynadot was able to utilize the heavyhandedness of godaddy (what I hate so much) as a tool to protect themselves. I am sure that dynadot would have been happy with godaddy merely asking him to remove that 1 entry in his blog. Instead they shut him down completely, instantly I might add, and asked for $199 to reactivate it. This is what I hate about godaddy. Well this and their bimbo marketing. Gadaddy seems to have the attitude that ALL of their customers are guilty and just haven't been caught yet rather then giving them the benefit of the doubt. IMO customers should be treated with more respect then the person who lodged the complaint. We are customers after all. Right? Thank you all for your responses. I too wear stripes from the arrogance of the likes of Godaddy and Network Solutions. I too approached Dynadot with more than skepticism. So I parked a few domains I could afford to lose with DynaDot. They treated me with courtesy and that rarest of commodities: common sense. In the last year I've moved in at least 50 domains. Some times I had to claw and fight to transfer the domain (going all the way to INIC in one case to successfully pry a domain from GoDaddy) -- but never with Dynadot. I even moved some domains away from Dynadot just to see what would happen. The transfer was not only simple & hassle free, it was nearly immediate! I have another 100 or so domains that I plan to trickle into Dynadot's stewardship and sincerely reccommend these folks to you without reservation. I have never met anyone with a financial interest or who was employed by Dynadot and have in no way any financial interest in Dynadot -- but they have definately earned my respect and appreciation for being honest and professional. If Dynadot gets hacked (most of us running servers fall into two groups: those who haven't been hacked yet and those who have been hacked), I have the gut feeling that Dynadot will do everything possible to protect the domain registrations entrusted to them. If you are concerned about personal information getting lose, may I recommend Dynadot's innovative prepay system. If you use a third party to manage payment (CC or one of the pay services) the third party apparently requires Dynadot to keep your personal information for at least a year. By using the prepay strategy, Dynadot does not have to keep all that information and there's no way for it to leak out. Just a thought. OK that's my rant. Thanks for reading this far! Pat Ampulla

I am concerned that GoDaddy apparently purchases 'searched for' domains, literally a week after searching for a domain on Dynadot, with who I have a few domains, I came back to buy them on Dynadot and they have been bought up, by GoDaddy! I never searched for them on GoDaddy...now I have to pay a premium broker fee to obtain them. I am suspicious - how has this happened? I do not believe for a second its just coincidence.
